Mary King's Close adult ticket
The one-hour guided tour of the close under the Royal Mile, for visitors aged 16 and over, at the date and time you choose.
The adult ticket admits one visitor aged 16 or over to the guided tour of Mary King's Close at one date and one tour time. You meet your guide at the Admissions Office on the Royal Mile, go 58 steps down into the closes under the City Chambers, and spend about an hour among the streets and rooms of the 17th century before coming back up.
What the adult ticket covers
The full guided tour, about one hour, led by a costumed guide playing a real former resident of the Old Town. The route goes through the preserved closes and rooms beneath the City Chambers, including Mary King's Close itself and Annie's room.
The free web app with the tour in ten other languages and in British and International Sign Language, if you bring headphones. Use of the courtyard lockers for luggage and big bags. Your e-ticket, sent by email, which you show at Admissions.
Who it suits
Anyone aged 16 or over who can manage 58 steps down and 38 up on uneven, sometimes dim ground. There's no separate student or senior fare: the attraction sells one adult category, so adults of every age travel on it.
It doesn't suit wheelchair users, since wheelchairs can't be used on the close, or anyone who would struggle in enclosed spaces. If you aren't sure, write to us before you book and we'll go through the route with you.
On the day
Be at 2 Warriston's Close, opposite St Giles' Cathedral, at least 10 minutes before your tour time. Late arrivals may be refused once the group has gone down. No photography below, and no food or drink on the close.
