Mary King's Close child ticket
The same one-hour guided tour for children aged 5 to 15, booked into the same tour time as the adults with them.
The child ticket admits one child aged 5 to 15 to the guided tour of Mary King's Close, on the same date and at the same tour time as the adults in your booking. Every child must be with an adult. Children under 5 aren't admitted to the historic site for safety reasons, so they can't join the tour.
What the child ticket covers
The full guided tour, about one hour, with the rest of your party. Children meet the same costumed guide and the same stories: the people of the closes, the plague of 1645 and Annie's room, where visitors leave toys for the little girl in the story.
Your e-ticket covers the whole party and comes by email. Show it at the Admissions Office on the Royal Mile.
Is it right for your child?
Think about the dark and the stairs. The tour goes 58 steps down and 38 up, some areas are dim and enclosed, and part of the hour is about the plague. Most children who like a good story enjoy it; a child who is nervous in the dark may not.
If one adult needs to wait upstairs with an under-5, the gift shop and the coffee cart are open to everyone.
